Diagnostic Imaging
Digital Ultrasound
Ultrasound is primarily used to diagnose soft tissue injuries. Not only is it important for an accurate initial diagnosis it is valuable as a tool to monitor healing. Ultrasound guided injections allow a practitioner to visualize the needle and the structure it is entering and is commonly used for larger joints including the shoulder, elbow, hip, sacro-iliac and cervical facets. Additionally Ultrasound can be used to evaluate thoracic and abdominal organs in the diagnosis and treatment of pneumonia, colic, and other medical conditions. At Stevens Equine Ultrasound examinations can easily be completed in a barn or show, and using battery power away from an electric source.
Digital Radiology
Radiology has been a part of equine veterinary medicine since machines were made portable. The introduction of direct digital systems has provided real time access to radiographic images allowing the veterinarian, client, and trainer to make decisions regarding treatment and prognosis during the examination. At Stevens Equine we have a system capable of imaging distal extremities and heads, necks and backs. Additionally, we have a wireless plate furthering ease of use around horses to eliminate a cord attached to the radiographic plate.
